Modern Masters - Frank Lampard

Easily the greatest player to ever put on the blue jersey of Chelsea FC, Frank Lampard won everything with the club that he took from mid table mediocrity to the very top.

Playing mostly as an attacking midfielder, Lampard is one of the top goal scorers in the Premier League and the highest among all midfielders. His record speaks for itself and even after moving from Stamford Bridge, he continued to remain a legend and an ambassador for the game. He represented New York City FC as well as Manchester City after moving from London, whilst also playing for West Ham before his transfer to Chelsea.

His style of play was as aesthetic as any player in history. Soft with the ball with an eye for goal, Lampard was one of the best players of his generation. His passing skills were also superb as was his dribbling and positioning. But more than his stats or game play with the ball, it was the players influence both on and off the pitch that made a huge impact. He was known to score important goals and at crucial moments and most of his goals came in wins.

He was and integral part of the League title and Champions League wins. His time with the National team was not very historic, as the English team of the time was easily one of the most talented National squads but they could not turn it into any major titles.

Born at the same time as Paul Scholes and Steven Gerrard, thentrio hit their peaks at relatively the same time, a feat which should augur well for any National Team. But with all three superstars playing in a similar role, the effectiveness of each was nullified and they could never acheive the same success internationally as they did at club level.

Still regarded as a club legend, Frank Lampard's name will forever be associated with the most successful period in the London clubs history. Along with John Terry, Didier Drogba and Jose Mourinho among others, Lampard led the transition of the club to a modern powerhouse.
