Cristiano Ronaldo

His performances for the National Team have often come under scrutiny, but he is still the all-time leading scorer for Portugal and has guided them to the semi-finals of the Euros with his performance against Hungary standing out, and even his assist against the Croatians at the last minute truly exemplified his stature in the current game. Although he was largely quiet in the quarters, he scored his penalty and has led the team very well so far, showing great signs of maturity.

His speed is probably the fastest of all players currently active and maybe even all time, and this going along with his ability to perform under pressure, produce decisive moments.

It’s not just the lightning speed, his heading ability is second to none, with a number of his goals coming through headers, and his innovations on and off the pitch leave many dazzled including opponents.

He has scored goals in every country, every condition and his work ethic is more than anyone else. For all his showboating and arrogance, maybe Ronaldo is just a child at heart enjoying what he does best and has somehow stumbled onto being the Greatest Player of his generation and maybe all-time by the time he winds up what has been an illustrious career so far.

Portugal have not won any major tournament in his time with the National Team, the closest they came was the finals in 2004 they lost to Greece on home soil. With his age crossing 30, time seems to be running out for Portugal's greatest ever player to secure a major triumph with the National Team. It will be a sad end to an illustrious career, one that has seen him do everything at club level.

As far as awards go, which is never really any clear indication, individually Ronaldo seems destined to win his third Ballon d'Or award this year after winning the award last year and in 2008. He has also won the Champions League with both Manchester United and Real Madrid, as well as winning league titles in both countries and their respective knockout cups. He has also won the UEFA Super Cup.

But with the National Team, he is yet to produce a memorable performance for them in the finals of a major tournament. This maybe his best chance yet as with two games to go, he has the necessary quality at his disposal to not only achieve team honors, but individual honors as well. A couple of Ronaldo-special moments could mean the difference between a title and close enough. If he can produce the form he showed against Hungary, then there will be no stopping him.
